DawBell hit the ground running coming back after Christmas and starting the New Year, tackling many exciting and new campaigns and projects across our music and brands divisions.
We welcomed a host of exceptional new talent from all over the world, not just from the UK but also Japan, Holland, Australia, Ireland and Latin America: Aine, St Agnes, Molly Rainford, KIAN, Lily Denning, Bailen, Steve Void, Dusky Grey, Talullah, TOKIMONSTA and CNCO. We worked with returning artists Andrew Bird and Riopy, and won the pitch to work the Take That - Cinema Live event on the final night of their UK tour on 8th June. The team also successfully bid to work with music hero Johnny Marr and British rapper & producer Labrinth, and a new vinyl project for Nirvana. Our brands division also got busy with a new music app Beat The Intro.

The BRIT Awards 2019 with Mastercard
DawBell were once again in charge of The BRIT Awards publicity for 2019, and the year started strong with the announcement of this year's nominations on Saturday 12 January, revealed exclusively via 'The BRITs Are Coming' ITV show hosted by Clara Amfo.
The team orchestrated a private media screening of the ITV show the day before, allowing press time to write up their all-important stories under strict embargo!
The lead up to the main event was a 6 week whirlwind of show announcements (this year's performers included Hugh Jackman, P!nk, Calvin Harris with Dua Lipa, Sam Smith and Rag 'n' Bone Man), press & digital activations with host Jack Whitehall, nominees and the BRIT statue designer Sir David Adjaye, all to promote the live TX on ITV on 20th February.
The day itself saw the entire DawBell office deployed to The O2 Arena to manage all aspects of the event publicity, from the showbiz spotlight of the red carpet through to the show photographers and winner's room, with approx 100 journalists and photographers on site, plus an exclusive GQ backstage photo shoot which is profiled in the current issue of the magazine!
Next day coverage was achieved in all ten national newspapers, including four covers, with over 1000 pieces of online coverage. The entire print and online press campaign achieved an overall reach of 3.8bn.
The Prince Estate launch new social accounts and reveal physical reissue plans
February saw the unveiling of social media accounts from The Prince Estate, celebrating the life and legacy of Prince. As well as the launch of Twitter and Instagram accounts, The Prince Estate also teamed up with GIPHY, creating a library of over 1,700 Prince GIFs for users to share on countless social media apps.
During the first quarter of 2019, the Estate also unveiled the releases of some of Prince’s most loved records. ‘Musicology’, ‘3121’ and ‘Planet Earth’ were all made available on CD, as well as for a limited-edition purple vinyl for the first time. ‘The VERSACE Experience: Prelude 2 Gold’, one of Prince’s rarest records, was recreated exclusively on cassette for Record Store Day 2019, earlier this month.

BTS - Music Week Award nomination & Wembley Stadium
Following our 2018 work with the K-pop phenomenon BTS, DawBell received a nomination in Q1 of this year for “PR Campaign” in the 2019 Music Week Awards! Junior Associate Director Ashley Townley and Digital PR Executive Lauren Webb were tasked with presenting their entry to a judging panel to secure the shortlist inclusion - the winner will be announced at the awards on 9th May, fingers crossed! Q1 also saw the announcement of two sold-out shows in June at the 70k capacity Wembley Stadium for BTS, in support of their brand new album ‘Map of the Soul: Persona’, which was released last week and is now on track for a ground-breaking No. 1 position in the UK Album Charts.
Paul McCartney takes his Freshen Up tour to South America
Following a three month break since winning 5-star reviews across the board in the UK, Paul took his tour back out on the road in March, this time to South America with concerts in Chile, Argentina and Brazil. DawBell were responsible for working with media on the ground in these countries and arranging interviews for Paul with local media. Paul was met with huge-mania in South America - selling out massive stadium shows. His presence in each country was enough to create front page news and constant TV news reporting. Media camped outside Paul’s hotels, along with fans, hoping for a glimpse. DawBell were on hand to manage the mania and witness some of the best live shows ever!
Keith Urban returns to the UK
In March, international music sensation Keith Urban flew to the UK to play a string of live shows for the first time in over a decade. With an impressive global success story - a total of 24 No.1 singles and albums in the US country charts, and over 20 million albums sold worldwide - the DawBell team worked on securing quality and credible press looks during his trip in order to bring his music and personality to a wider audience here in the UK.
The first show on the trip was a sold out underplay at The Forum Kentish Town, with a variety of key media tastemakers in attendance from press such as iNews, Telegraph, Maverick Magazine and Entertainment Focus. This was followed by his highly anticipated headline slot at London’s C2C at The O2 Arena, where he delighted fans with a set list comprising of his international hits as well as tracks from new album album ‘Graffiti U’.
A positive range of media coverage was achieved including a cover interview and 4-page feature in Maverick Magazine - the UK’s leading country music publication, plus profile features with Sunday Times Magazine and GQ Online, accompanied by a high profile performance booking on BBC’s The One Show that week.
DawBell Brands: PEEX and Casio Music UK
It’s been a busy first quarter for the brands division at DawBell with plenty of activity from PEEX and Casio Music UK. In February, the brands team organised for the COO of PEEX, David Johnson to speak on a panel of event tech experts at the ‘The Event Production Show’. The following month, PEEX went live on Elton John’s US leg of his ‘Farewell Yellow Brick Road’ tour. The brands team coordinated US PR support, and invited key journalists to try out the technology, from outlets including TechCrunch, CNET, Sound & Vision, Wearable Tech Insider and ABC News.
The following month, the team were busy working alongside Casio Music UK for their ‘Learn To Play Day 2019’. The event took place at the London Casio Showroom, where ‘walk in’ piano lessons were given to any attendees as well as a free live gig with soul artist Jodie Abacus. The event was a success with many members of the public enjoying themselves and learning to play their favourite tunes in just 5 minutes! Check out the video round up of the day below.
DawBell expands dance and country music roster
At DawBell, we feel we represent the best names in the business, from the most exciting musicians and artists, to personalities, brands and events, and our first quarter saw the team working some incredible names in dance and country music.
Award-winning DJ & producer Steve Aoki came over to the UK in February to not only make an appearance on the red carpet at The BRIT Awards (interviewed by the likes of NME & DIY) but to also play a handful of shows across the UK, including a sold out London Brixton Academy. Supporting a number of UK dates on the tour was another DawBell dance client, the 4x Platinum pop trio Cheat Codes, who also joined the action on the BRITs red carpet. DawBell kept the guys working hard during their trip by setting up interviews with key press including MTV UK, Euphoria, 1883, Spindle and Metro.
Representing the UK and Europe is DJ and producer Jax Jones, who headlined a sold-out show this quarter at London’s Roundhouse and announced a new collaboration with Martin Solveig, Europa, and emerging Dutch DJ/producer Steve Void, promoting his first release as part of his new deal Virgin EMI - watch this space for more news coming from both these camps this year.
As well as Keith Urban, Q1 saw a flurry of activity from other country crossover artists on our roster - Universal-signed Nashville singer Thomas Rhett won Male Artist of the Year at the ACM Awards and debuted his single on SNL, the first country act to do so this season.
Testament to the team’s work in this genre, we signed up emerging singer Bailey Bryan to work her new EP, which saw support from The Independent in their ‘Now Hear This’ playlist, ahead of a handful of live shows in May, including a support slot for fellow country act LANCO, at the Islington Assembly on May 1st, and we were confirmed to work US singer songwriter Kip Moore’s forthcoming London shows too - keep checking DawBell socials for news on all of these exciting acts!
Award wins for our talent clients: Michelle Keegan, Holly Willoughby, Shirley Ballas, Joe Sugg
It was an exciting start of the year for DawBell’s talent roster, which kicked off with the National Television Awards in January. The evening saw Holly Willoughby pick up her first solo NTA nomination for Best TV Presenter, before she and the entire This Morning team celebrated the win for Best Daytime Show. And that wasn’t all for the night’s successes, as Shirley Ballas and the Strictly family danced their way to victory for another year, with their win for Best Talent Show.
Following a widely-praised third series in BBC’s Our Girl, Michelle Keegan also received her first NTA nomination for Best Drama Performance. However it wasn’t long before she stepped off the red carpet and into the prestigious Bake-Off tent, impressing viewers by becoming one of this year’s celebrity Star Bakers, for Stand Up to Cancer.
More award wins followed in March, including Holly Willoughby picking up her first TRIC Award for Best TV Personality, following her debut on I’m a Celebrity as well as her continued work with This Morning. Another talent client, Joe Sugg also won big this year at The Global Awards with the public-voted Social Media Star Award, following a hugely successful stint on Strictly Come Dancing, where he made it all the way to the finals.
Sundara Karma & Circa Waves release new albums
Q1 saw some exciting new album releases from guitar bands on the DawBell roster. First up, Sundara Karma, who released their anticipated second studio album ‘Ulfilas’ Alphabet’ in March! The campaign kicked off late last year with a chat and video launch on NME. They also played a show at London’s Omeara, with reviews from media outlets including Wonderland, Gigwise, Dork and DIY.
Heralding the New Year, the DawBell team secured a variety of features and interviews for the band, including the cover of DIY’s February issue, and an interview with Dork in their March issue. The band also took part in The 405’s Record Shopping feature, while frontman Oscar Pollock also spoke to numerous publications including The Book of Man and Gay Times for a 4-page feature.
The album itself received a string of positive reviews, including 4* from Q Magazine and NME, and an 8/10 review from The Line of Best Fit.
Another band who entered the year with a new release were Circa Waves, who released their third studio album ‘What’s it Like Over There?’. Following the initial announcement in 2018, which was accompanied by press features in NME and Metro, the campaign moved into 2019 with numerous underplays, in-stores and shows for their UK tour, and press interviews with a number of lifestyle publications such as GQ, Notion and Fred Perry.
Playing on both their song title ‘Passport’ and the current woes of Brexit, the team worked with Prolifica Management on a big creative moment ahead of album release - which became a lock-up & band takeover at the Monarch Tavern in London - a venue for the band to play to fans while inviting them to escape the Brexit madness for the evening. The lock-in was a great success, securing coverage in the Daily Star, Evening Standard & BBC. The album - their first to crack the UK Top Ten - also received 4* reviews from NME, Independent and Ticketmaster.
