BBC 6 Music saved due to public pressure and artist endorsement

Endorsements from the likes of Davie Bowie, Chris Martin and Lilly Allen warned of the stark consequences to the music industry if the station was to close. The campaign to save 6 Music also had tremendous public backing with Facebook groups, blogs and even events such as Glastonbury Festival flooding the web with protest to the proposition.

This support correlated with a host of media attention/publicity meant that the stations listening figures rose dramatically to more than a million listeners a week. In a fantastic turnaround the proposed closure actually increased awareness about 6 Music, providing unprecedented publicity that eventually saved the station.

Interesting how this idea could be used.

Public backing and media pressure seemed the key components to turning around the stations fate. These crucial factors were not evident in similar campaigns to save the likes of the Observer Newspaper and the BBC Asian Network which were dramatically less successful.

6 Music can be used as an example of how public pressure built from successfully implemented campaign can alter opinion and even reverse decisions at the highest.

  • Home loans are lending vehicles designed to help people purchase and/or improve real estate. There are a variety home loan options available to consumers, depending on their personal needs and circumstances.

Actual mortgage rates can depend on the vehicle selected and the personal credit standing of the borrower. Figuring out which home loans make the most sense will depend on whether a borrower is looking to purchase new or is considering mortgage refinancing.
